Paying in Vietnam: cash, cards and transfers
In Vietnam cash in dong works everywhere and US dollars are accepted by many drivers and hotels. Cards issued abroad work in most hotels and big shops; Russian-issued Visa and Mastercard do not work. Our drivers take cash in dong or dollars; the online payment needs a card that works abroad. Prices checked .
Cash
The dong (₫) is the currency; 26,300 ₫ is about one US dollar (October 2026). Exchange at banks or gold shops in town rather than at the airport counter, or withdraw from ATMs (fees apply).
Cards and QR
Visa and Mastercard issued outside Russia work in hotels, malls and many restaurants. Russian-issued Visa/Mastercard do not work. According to a Russian travel guide (travelto.ru, checked 06.07.2026), Mir cards can be used only for cash withdrawals at some VRB ATMs, UnionPay works unevenly, and Sber/VTB QR payments work only in connected shops since November 2025. Check with your bank before travelling.
Paying for a RideVN transfer
Pay 50% online to confirm, the rest in cash to the driver — or pay 100% online. Trips under $100 are paid in full online. Full refund if cancelled 24h+ before pickup (multi-day trips: 7+ days before the start).
If your card is not accepted online, book on WhatsApp and pay the driver in cash at the same price.
